NINETY SIX, SC – Greenwood School District 52 officially dedicated their new combination Ninety Six High School/Edgewood Middle School on Sunday afternoon, opening their doors to hundreds students, future students, their families and the rest of the Ninety Six community.
The new 180,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art facility represents the culmination of four years of blood, sweat and tears from everyone involved in the two schools, from the school board all the way down to the last incoming sixth-grader at Edgewood.
“Today is a good day,” Ninety Six principal Rex Ward told GwdToday. “Everything has been building toward today and the first day of school. I’m glad it’s finally here.”
The new facility is two schools in one, with a dividing point in the cafeteria which has a retractable wall to separate the middle school from the high school. There is wireless internet throughout the entire school and smart boards – dry erase boards that double as computer monitors and connect to the internet – in every classroom. The two schools have separate entrances and gymnasiums.
County Council District Two representative Mark Allison was on hand for the dedication. “Ninety Six really needed two new schools,” Allison told GwdToday while admiring the middle school gym. “It’s nice to have these facilities here in Ninety Six to help better prepare our students for the challenges they’ll face in today’s world.”
