NINETY SIX - Ninety Six High School's Jo-Jo Chaney has craved making the big hit.

Now, he has a chance to make the big catch.
After starting at cornerback and mostly waiting behind starting quarterback Hunter Watson last season, a change in philosophy gives Chaney opportunities to become Watson's go-to wide receiver.

"If you get a good smack on somebody, you want to play defense," said Chaney, a junior. "And on offense, there's nothing like getting the ball and scoring."
That's why Chaney is excited about the Wildcats' new pistol offense. Although Chaney started the 2011 season's first two games behind center while Watson healed from a shoulder injury, Chaney was not on the field with Ninety Six's offense as much as he preferred.
Entering Friday's season opener against Emerald, Chaney will not only start at cornerback, he also will start at slot receiver. Chaney was receptive to the change, dating to the spring.
"At the end of last season, I wasn't getting much playing time on offense, mostly because Hunter was at quarterback," Chaney said. "And the coaches said they wanted to try me at receiver this year. And I said, 'OK, I'd like that.' And it progressed from there."
